Reading is So Delicious

With the end of school being near, that means summer reading is almost here!

The Atwood-Hammond Public Library is having summer reading program sign ups on Monday, May 21 from 9am to 5pm.  The theme this year is “Reading is So Delicious.”  To accompany the theme, each age group is named after a book/food combination.  The youngest age group, Goodnight Moon-Pies, is for children ages 3 to children going into kindergarten.  The Grapes of Wrath will be for children going into 1st and 2nd grade.  And for children 3rd grade and up, our novel club will be called Because of Winn-Dixie Cream Donuts.  Each age group will meet once a week through the month of June for food themed stories, games, and crafts.  In addition to age group meetings, there will also be weekly programs for all ages: Carrie Downs—cake decorating demonstration, Outside of the Box – cupcake decorating, and Richard Landry – comedy magician with his rabbit Snowball.  So, Monday as you pick up your child’s report card from school, stop by the Atwood-Hammond Public Library and sign them up for the summer reading program because this summer “Reading is So Delicious!”

THE VIAL OF LIFE-Get your Vial at the Library-IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE!

The Vial of Life, sponsored by the Douglas County Health Department, is designed to help emergency response personnel provide the best possible care and quickest response time during an emergency.  Senior citizens, people who live alone and anyone with a chronic illness can benefit for Vial of Life.  This includes anyone with diabetes, epilepsy, kidney disease, heart disease or any other illness where emergency care may be necessary.

The Vial of Life is a container that holds important medical information such as a list of medications, allergies and special needs.  The vial may also contain a copy of a living will and contact names and phone numbers.  The Vial of Life  is kept in the refrigerator in a designated location, where emergency personnel can easily find it.  An additional vial may be placed in your automobile glove compartment for easy access.

The information contained in the Vial of Life helps emergency medical personnel and fire fighters when responding to an emergency.  It's a simple program that can save your life.

Vials are available at the library and come with instructions, medical data form, and a sticker to place on the exterior of your front door so that it is visible to emergency personnel.
